Dear friends,

First Female Vice-Chancellor of UNISA: Congratulations to Prof. Puleng LenkaBula!

Please join me to congratulate and appreciate Professor Puleng LenkaBula, who became the first woman to assume the position of Principal and Vice Chancellor of UNISA in its 149 years’ history in January 2021. Knowing that the structures of an institution such as UNISA are still largely defined along racial and patriarchal lines, posing a major challenge to pioneering black women leaders, we therefore pledge our support and prayers during her term of service.

Prof LenkaBula, an ethicist by training, is a longstanding member of the Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians. At the 2019 30th Anniversary celebration of the Circle, Prof LenkaBula did not only present the opening address of the conference, she was also awarded the Circle of Concerned African Women Theologian’s Ethics and Philosophical Champion Award.

Congratulations, once more, to Prof LenkaBula on her appointment to the position of Principal and Vice-Chancellor of UNISA, a position she assumed at the beginning of 2021. The Circle wishes her good success.
