Re: The 1st Woman Bishop of the Anglican Church in Kenya: Congratulations Bishop Emily Awino Onyango!

Within this week, when we woke up to the presidency of Samia Suluhu Hassan as the first woman president of Tanzania, the Anglican Church has elected the Rev. Canon Dr Emily A. Onyango as its first woman Bishop in Kenya. Dr Onyango becomes the fourth woman bishop in the Anglican Church of Africa ( Currently there are two women bishops in South Africa and one in Episcopal church in South Sudan).

Dr Onyango is a founding member of the Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians. She was among the 79 women who attended the meeting that launched the Circle in Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon Ghana in 1989.

The Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians congratulates Bishop Emily Onyango in her new appointment and offers its prayers and accompaniment during her term of service.

Congratulations The Rt. Rev. Emily A. Onyango!
